Grant yourself a chance to indulge in life’s simple luxuries, go back to basics and get a real taste of an authentic Longhouse. Traditionally, the Rungus people live in longhouses built on stilts, the modern-day shift has meant that the sight of such longhouses are getting more rare. In Kg. Bavanggazo near Tinangol in the Kudat district, the tradition is kept especially alive with fascinating communal lifestyle in a purpose-built longhouse constructed entirely of traditional materials but with added modern comforts like toilets and showers.

Situated in a valley about 41 kilometres south of Kudat town and 98 kilometres or two and a half hours drive from KK City, you can get a taste of real Rungus living through their food, daily rituals and music on a day trip or overnight stay (prior arrangement needed).

It took approximately 3 hours from the city all the way to Kudat, where the South China Sea and Sulu Sea converge. This little slice of paradise, bafflingly beautiful with the harmony of sunny skies, blue seas, palm tree was back then the first capital of British North Borneo Chartered Company.

After the hefty traditional native lunch, cruise on over to the  Northern Tip of Borneo, also known as Tanjung Simpang Mengayau which means 'lingering junction' as it is here that the South China Sea lingers and meets the Sulu Seas flowing from the east. Take a stroll on the lavish expanse of white sand that comes complimentary with a breath-taking view of dramatic rocky outcrops.  The northern most tip of Borneo is graced with wide publicity through popular mass media from the 2003 book entitled KUDAT.

On the way back, take a visit to the infamous“Gong” making village - Kampung Sumangkap Gong Factory. It is well known for local artisans and their exceptional craftsmanship in making ‘Gongs’,  a traditional musical instrument rich with history and meaning. Here, visitors will also have the opportunity to witness the method of gong making by the professional gong makers in the village.
